SOUTH WALTON PREPPED FOR REGULAR-SEASON FINALE
There’s an air of optimism floating around the South Walton football field.
It’s understandable given coach Phil Tisa and the Seahawks seem destined for their first playoff berth since 2014.
South Walton currently ranks third in the Region 1-4A power ranks with 34.29 points. The Seahawks were ranked fifth a week ago, and their 20-18 victory against Freeport didn’t count toward their playoff resume, but they made the jump anyway.
“It was definitely good to get back action,” Tisa said. “Throughout the week, it was definitely a little bit bumpy last week, trying to get back in the swing of things. This week has been much better.”
Tisa said he was proud of the offensive line’s performance, which sprung running back Elias Foreman for several long runs, as well as the performance of his defense, which bowed up to stop the Bulldogs on fourth and short late in the fourth quarter to preserve the victory.
This week, South Walton (3-4) gets Bozeman (2-4) at 7 p.m. Friday on the road. The Bucks are still using their school as a shelter for Hurricane Michael refugees, but Tisa said it was important to the community the game be played in Bozeman.
Bozeman hasn’t played since it lost 30-0 to Blountstown on Oct. 5. South Walton has tape from that game, as well as the tape from the Bucks’ 33-14 loss to Vernon on Sep. 28. Still, Tisa said preparation for Friday’s game is different than most.
“We don’t really know what to expect,” Tisa said. “We have the last two games that they’ve played, which were three or four weeks ago. We don’t know which of their kids are still in town.
“We just gotta go out and play football.”
