SOWAL’S GREEN SIGNS WITH WEBBER
Better late than never, Aria Green has finally secured her future.
The former South Walton Seahawk announced Friday that she had accepted a scholarship and would continue her track and cross-country career at Webber International University in Babson Park.
“From the day that Webber International University reached out to me wanting me to run for their school , it has been a huge eye-opener to me,” Green said. “I have always wanted to continue competing after high school but I never thought I would get the opportunity to.
“I am very thankful for (South Walton) coach (Willie) Parker for showing me what it means to be a part of a team. I have never given up on myself and I’m excited to see what competing at the next level at Webber International University has to offer.”
During her senior year at South Walton, Green placed 20th at the District 1-2A cross-country meet out of 49 competitors, finishing her race in 24 minutes, 33.88 seconds.
When track season rolled around in the spring, Green placed sixth in the 1,600-meter run and fifth in the 3,200-meter run at the District 1-2A meet. She ran the 1,600 in 6:17.09 and the 3,200 in 14:02.80.
“This is a great opportunity for Aria,” Parker told the Daily News. “She will do good at Webber, and I’m very happy for her.”
