HANSON’S 30-YARD FG GIVES SOWAL THIRD STRAIGHT WIN

South Walton is back, y’all. Back to posting win streaks. Back to looking like a playoff contender. Back to. 500, the latest triumph a 30-27 win at Marianna after freshman kicker Gabe Hanson split the uprights on a 30-yard field goal with 8 seconds left. “It was huge,” South Walton coach Phil Tisa said of the kick. “That win felt awesome.” The clutch kick was the third key special teams play of the game, the Seahawks blocking a field goal down 14-7 in the second quarter and then later getting a blocked extra point from Zak Mignot to keep the game knotted at 27 with a little more than a minute to play in the game. After an 0-3 start, the Seahawks (3-3) have now won three straight, including wins over Bay and Port St. Joe. STAT OF THE NIGHT: 4 All four South Walton touchdowns came on the right arm of quarterback Drake Roberts, three going to J.M. Allen and the other going to Cade Roberts. The Seahawks trailed 14-0 before answering with 28 unanswered from Drake, who’s finally making that Dandy Dozen nod look good. In the three wins, Drake has seven touchdown passes and three rushing scores. “Drake looked really good tonight,” Tisa said. OFFENSIVE MVP: J.M Allen Allen, who entered the year coming off a 952-yard, eight-touchdown campaign as a junior, has caught fire every since his two-catch, 17-yard effort in the opener at Fort Walton Beach. Allen has four straight 100-yard efforts to go along with four touchdowns, the senior on pace for 1,000 receiving yards. DEFENSIVE/SPECIAL TEAMS MVP: Gabe Hanson It’s gotta be Hanson, the kicker with ice in his veins. No freshman is ever put into that spot. But his offense and coaches believed in him and he delivered the biggest kick of his young career. QUOTABLE Phil Tisa on South Walton digging itself out off that 0-3 hole: ”.500 definitely feels better than a losing record heading into the bye week. I’ll tell them to enjoy this for the weekend and to be ready when it comes time to get back to work.” UP NEXT South Walton has a bye week before hosting Northview on Oct. 11. “They have a lot of talent,” Tisa said. “We’re gonna have to show up and play.”
