PAXTON TOPS SOWAL BEHIND SECOND-HALF SURGE
Week after week, the Paxton girls basketball team continues to prove it’s the standard by which all area small schools should be judged.
Matched up against legendary area coach Kevin Craig and South Walton on Tuesday night, coach Andrew Norris and the Bobcats made the necessary halftime adjustments and held the Seahawks to just four third-quarter points to build a sizeable lead en route to a 70-44 victory, their seventh straight.
Senior forward Sadie Varnum, who just scored her 1,000th career point this past week against Jay, led the way with a game-high 19 points. Senior Hailee Bryan chipped in 14 points, including three 3-pointers, and senior Caylor Dixon and sophomore Cassie Varnum also cracked double-digits with 11 points and 10 points, respectively.
For the Seahawks, Emma Hawk led the way with 16 points and nine rebounds, while Crystal King-Williamson added 10 points.
Up next, South Walton (9-7 overall) will tip off in Navarre against the Raiders (10-11) at 6:45 p.m. Thursday, and Paxton will play host to Baker at 6 p.m. Friday for Homecoming. The Bobcats (18-2) beat the Gators (2-8) 73-23 this past Friday in Baker.
